OPEN ADVANCED/PROFESSIONAL CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE

ODC DANCE COMMONS, San Francisco, CA

Monday/Wednesday/Friday   10-11:30 am

After years of teaching, I think I can safely say that the style I teach is more or less my own (inasmuch as anyone's style is completely her own after a lifetime of learning from others). I enjoy teaching an energetic fast-paced class with my incredible accompanist of many years, Daniel Berkman. I believe in musicality, detail, safe and vital technique, and generous, physically daring dancing. I believe in having fun and trying to find the humor in this art that we all take so seriously. I believe that the way we choose to move reveals a lot about who we are. And, I believe in the community that we create for each other" - Katie Faulkner

"One of the greatest things about Katie is that she creates a safe and open space for movers to explore their creativity, movement imaginations and themselves. During her technique classes, she is an attentive, loving instructor and one who encourages individuals to taste and experiment with her athletic, fun and at times, quirky choreography. Whether performing, teaching or dancing with others, one can feel her passion and commitment for dance and people." - Irene Vallar, student at UC Berkeley
